GAME NOTES
-- As expected, Victor Martinez is not in the Tigers' lineup today after catching seven innings in Detroit's 6-1 win Friday night. Brayan Pena will make his first start behind the plate since fouling a ball off his big toe on Tuesday.
-- Torii Hunter will get a day today, too. He will be available to pinch-hit if needed. Andy Dirks will spell him in right field and Omar Infante will bat second. Matt Tuiasosopo will bat fifth in place of Martinez and start in left field.
-- Jose Iglesias is unavailable to play today after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning Friday night. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Iglesias had difficultly bending his arm Saturday afternoon and experienced swelling. Ramon Santiago will get the start at short.
-- Max Scherzer will try to become the fastest in the major leagues to 19 victories since teammate Justin Verlander picked up his 19th on Aug. 22, 2011 during his 24-win season.
-- Scherzer is 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA over his six starts since pitching a scoreless first inning against the Nation League All-Stars. He's 34-8 record since 2012 and leads all American League pitchers with a .810 winning percentage during that span.
-- The Tigers continue a weekend road trip today with the second game of a three-game series against the Mets. After the series, the Tigers head home to begin a seven-game homestand against the Oakland Athletics and the Cleveland Indians.
