A hero marine who dropped off the pace in a 5K fun run to help a 9-year-old boy cross the line has become an online sensation.
Lance Corporal Myles Kerr, 19, sacrificed his leading spot in the annual Charlevoix, Mich. race after spotting little Brandon Fuchs was struggling to keep up.
"Sir, will you please run with me?" Fuchs reportedly asked him after losing sight of his friends.Kerr — keeping to true to the military credo — agreed, reports Medical Daily.
With his army friends racing off at full pelt along the shore of Lake Michigan, he was pictured encouraging Fuchs all the way to the finish line.
The image was uploaded to Facebook and soon went viral, with more than 200,000 likes and many users calling him a "role model" and a "hero."
But Kerr took his 15 minutes in his stride, telling his growing army of Twitter followers, "I was just doing what any man would do, but thank you!"
