Sexist gorilla: Antisocial ape evicted for dissing female zoo primates |
Reportedly, the sexist gorilla is to receive therapy to help socialize him with his peers, both males and females. But at 23, the 430-pound cranky behemoth may be stuck in his ways.
Still, officials are hopeful a stay at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens in Columbia will allow the bachelor to live gracefully and play by the rules.
Apparently, Patrick has not always been stuck up and much of a loner. He is a fan favorite among zoo visitors. Oddly enough, he gets along well with people better than other gorillas.
"He's beautiful and smart and everyone loves him. We're really sad to see him go but it's for the best for the zoo and for Patrick," said Laurie Holloway, a spokeswoman for the Dallas Zoo.
The ape's sexist behavior likely has its roots in his birth. When he was born at the Bronx Zoo in 1990, his mother abandoned him, leaving him to be hand-raised by zoo officials.
This likely led to his difficulty in associating with other primates. Perhaps, he even viewed them as a threat.
After he undergoes behavioral therapy for sexist tenancies, hopefully, the gorilla can slowly be introduced to his new pals without incident.
