Ty Burrell Emmy Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series 2011, Actor Ty Burrell won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, televised on Fox TV, on Sunday, September 18, 2011.

Emmy nominee Juliana Margulies (The Good Wife), who presented the award to Burrell, pointed out that four of the six nominees in the category were from "Modern Family.

Burrell spoke of his own father in accepting his best supporting actor award.

"I actually got kind of a late start in acting. My dad actually passed away before he ever saw me perform and I can't help but wonder what he would think about all this ... going to work in full makeup," Burrell said.

The nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy were Ty Burrell from Modern Family, Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family, Ed O'Neill from Modern Family, Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family, Chris Colfer from Glee and Jon Cryer from Two and a Half Men.

Actress Julie Bowen, Burrell's wife on Modern Family, won the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series award just prior to Burrell's award.

Modern Family returns for its third season on ABC on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Modern Fanily returns for third season with hour long event.

Modern Family took an early lead at the Emmys, causing host Jane Lynch to quip 'Welcome to the Modern Family Awards.'
