Former Cleveland Browns Quarterback Bernie Kosar Arrested for DUI, Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has reportedly been arrested for driving under the influence.
According to Patrick Cooley of The Plain Dealer, Kosar was pulled over for speeding on U.S. Route 422 in Solon, Ohio, at 2:42 a.m. The police officers "smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle" and administered field sobriety tests.
As the report states, Kosar was taken into custody at the Solon Police Department without incident.
Unfortunately, this isn’t Kosar’s first time dealing with a substance-abuse issue.
In an interview with Dan Le Batard of The Miami Herald (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), the retired signal-caller admitted that he had problems with drinking and pain medication. However, Kosar said those troubles were in the past.
“Would my kids be living with me if that were really the case?" he asked. "If I did 10 percent of things I'm accused of, I'd be dead."
Kosar has had difficulties in his post-playing days due to finances, a messy divorce and other personal problems. The 49-year-old also reportedly suffered from a number of concussions during his football career.
The 12-year veteran is best remembered for his nine-season tenure with the Browns, but he also won a Super Bowl ring backing up Troy Aikman on the Dallas Cowboys (1993), and filled the same role for the Miami Dolphins (1994-96) behind Dan Marino.
He finished his career having completed 1,994 of 3,365 passes for 23,301 yards, 124 touchdowns and 87 interceptions.
