Favre was the biggest name targeted during the Saints' bounty scandal. New Orleans tried to take him out of the NFC championship game at the end of the 2009 season when Favre was a member of the Vikings, with an alleged prize of $35,000. Even though the Saints couldn't knock Favre out of the game, they laid a number of huge hits on him.
But, when Saints coach Sean Payton wanted to know about how to handle the noise in Seattle for Monday night's game, he texted Favre. Payton figured that Favre might know, considering the Vikings dealt with a lot of noise in that NFC title game at the Superdome. And got the exact advice he was looking for.
Lisa Salters of ESPN reported on Favre helping the Saints just before kickoff:
"Favre shared with Payton that the Vikings had designer noise reduction ear plugs custom made for that game and Favre said it really helped," Salters reported. "So, Payton ordered up 20 of those ear plugs."
Salters said the players were fitted Tuesday, the ear plugs arrived on Friday, and they practiced a couple days with them with crowd noise being piped in.
Favre has said before that he really doesn't care that he was targeted during the bounty scandal, and apparently he wasn't lying. It probably says something about his old-school nature that he doesn't hold any grudges and helped the Saints out for their huge game against the Seahawks.
Now, if Payton shows up coaching next week in some Wrangler jeans, we'll really know that Favre holds no grudges.
